The lives of reporter Polly Perkins and her ex-boyfriend, Joe Sullivan, intersect. For the past three years, large robots have been roaming the Earth, taking what they need, and vanishingquicklythey appeared. Joe and his technical assistant Dex have been investigating and battling these mysterious robots. Meanwhile, many of the world's scientists have been systematically kidnapped. Dr. Jennings, believing that he is the next target, tells what little he knows to Polly. His beliefs are that Dr. Totenkopf, who has not been heard from in over thirty years, is carrying out a project he started prior to World War I, this project which may be associated with these robots. Polly and Joe, with Dex, join forces to find Totenkopf, which may not be easy due to their still antagonistic relationship. As they piece together Totenkopf's plot, Polly and Joe realize that stopping him from carrying out his grand plan of creating his version of a Utopian society may not beeasykilling him.
This movie is one of the most visually stunning movies that I've ever seen. I don't know what else to say. I can't believe that so many people have given this movie a 1, did they even see it or that just based off of the TV ads? This might just be the movie I've been waiting my whole life to see, a movie that takes the Science Fiction of the 1930's and 1940's and updates it with amazing modern special effects. Beyond that, all the actors are great and have fantastic chemistry with one another. The movie is exciting and funny and just all around great. In a perfect world this would be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year and would spawn a whole series of amazing sequels. The movie just opened todayI write this, so who knows how it will do. Just go see it and give it a chance. Everyone I saw it with loved it and the audience cheered and clapped and several points in the movie.
First off, I like the premise of a film mostly all CGI. At times though, there is just too much CGI. We are still a few years away from that seamless feel, but the interaction was good. All of the actors shined, even though Angelina was just a cameo appearance. I must admit, the movie & action scenes were a bit predictable, but once the entire story clicked into place the back bone story is really cool. For a first time Director from Flint, MI he did pretty damn good for directing a big Production film. Jude Law of course is greatSky Captain, and Gwyneth Paltrow is still dreamyshe can get. It certainly is a movie that looks better on the big scene(even though it is in FLAT, not SCOPE).
Other than the actors, their costumes, and a few props, everything in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is digital illusion, and the effects are often exhilarating.
The two vials contained the material for Totenkopf's genetically engineered humans, his Adam and Eve. "Sky Captain" is Joe's call-sign, or pilot nickname. The story behind it remains unknown.
